About the Adaptive Edge Institute at Illinois State

Since 2022, Illinois State University has been a regional leader in creating a new understanding of how technology can best be used in higher education. The Adaptive Edge Institute was created at the behest of Provost Ani Yazedjian in 2025 to be a centralized effort under Academic Affairs to create programs that serve both the campus community and constituents in and far beyond Bloomington-Normal to better understand and use emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence.

Purpose

The Adaptive Edge Institute exists to help our community thrive in an era of unprecedented change. We believe that in a world transformed by technologies like artificial intelligence, our greatest opportunity lies in becoming more deeply human through thoughtful, ethical engagement with these tools. We aim to serve as a catalyst for adaptive thinking, as we work to support those who seek to navigate uncertainty with curiosity, build resilience through human connection, and transform challenges into possibilities. Our work spans education, technology, and industry, and is always guided by a simple truth: the future belongs to those who can learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Advisory Council

An advisory council of faculty and staff helps guide the operations of the Institute, with membership currently being developed as the council takes shape.
